How can I change the way I think?
« on: June 13, 2008, 03:15:04 PM »
I always think that the worst possible thing that can happen will happen. I waste all this time freaking out and then it is all ok. I am sick of being like this. I hate it. I wanna change. How do I do this? And why do I worry so much? :(

I think that could be a very tough question to answer, and I can identify with you to a point.

I'd say that trying to have a broader perspective may be helpful. Maybe learning about your trend to worry and trying to acknowledge that it's not productive would be helpful. I'd try to read about others with a similar tendency.

Best of luck with this.

Feel the fear and do it anyway is a good first stab - download or buy it - but basically, how about saying boo to the monsters - or actually create your nightmares, do what you are so scared of doing and then you might realise you end up breathing, being..........and living>

Practice thinking positive.  Those negative thought patterns are practiced and are reinforced in your brain every time you have them.  Next time, try replacing a negative thought with a positive thought.  Repeat the positive thought out loud, and don't argue with yourself.  Repeat it as many times as necessary to think it internally. With practice, you will create pathways for positive thought in your mind.

I think this shows your mental disability. You do not trust yourself. This is the reason. First start liking yourself. Make up your mind to face the worst which means you have got enough guts to face anything. Once if you get this, you will start winning situations. Be cheerul and happy always.

Honestly? Find a counselor or therapist. If a fear of the "worst happening" is impairing your life don't waste any more of that time,go talk to someone who has the ability to help you. Forums are great for talking about your fears or worries but to my knowledge no one here is a licensed psychologist.
