Transcending Thought ( Fact or Fiction? )
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:02:10 AM »
We all think thoughts. What do we do when we think?  Is it our brains that think, or is the brain the 'mechanism' we use to 'think with'?
As an analogy, can we say we think thoughts the way hens lay eggs? Only our thoughts don't leave our bodies but appear to 'project' a la Rorschach.
Self-concept/ego are  'made' of thoughts. We think about who we are. We 'believe' we are who we think we are. Is such a belief warrented? Is believing we are who we think we are the same  kind of false belief when we believe a innocous/inert pill is  medicine? It's easy to correct believing a fake pill is not medicine, recognizing a false thought is a surprise. (I thought the gun was empty,) But it's difficult to recognize that we are not the thoughts we think and believe we are. So "what" transcends thoughts?   "Consciousness". Does consciousness leave thoughts the way the spirit leaves the body? We are born conscious, so it's a 'good bet we "are" consciousness. We can call 'consciousness' "real self".  Self-concept/ego can only be constructed  'after' we learn language. Self-concept/ego is a social identity; artifact; we all need a identity.
Transcending Thought used to be a secret of esoteric schools, secret societies, etc. But it's time it's made public. I believe that is the only "cure' for society, we better hurry before it's too late.
Individual therapy and self-help are too slow; we need a Paradigm Shift, en masse, of the magnitude of shifting from flat earth to round earth.

   Prior To Memory, Conditioning, Habit
Without memory, conditioning, habit, is there any intelligence? If you say no, then you define 'intelligence' as past experience, that is 'recorded' past experience. Recorded past experince implies  intelligence is learned (for humans). Animals have intelligence; aren't humans born with "natural, organismic intelligence"too, before they start learning the human version? Then what is 'wisdom, intuition? off-shoots of past experience? (hardly). Webster: Intelligence,(a) the ability to learn or understand. (b) the ability to cope with new situations.
If the situation is new, you use past experience? What if nothing in your "repertoire" fits; do you bend the new facts to fit anyway? Isn't that reliving the past in the present?
So where do 'original' thoughts come from? We know they will end up in the 'recycle bin' of memory. A original thought is required for new, novel, never-before-encounterd situations. But it seems we're conditioned to reuse thoughts from memory. We 'do' have the ability to think original thoughts. Why don't we think original thoughts; is our environmet so static that old thoughts will do?  Observation indicates we seem to be limited/restricted to  memory, conditioning, habit. When was the last time you 'made' and used a 'original thought'?
Let's trace back to the "place' original thoughts are 'conceived', before they are formed into existence. Any image we form about that "place" comes, from that "place", we can access any image we like , but we can't access a image of where/how images are made, lol. So there's two source of thoughts, new and used. Which source do you 'patronize? consistently, routinely, exclusively?'
Do you only shop at thrift stores and pawn shops also? You settling for only used thoughts?
