How hypnosis works?
« on: November 05, 2010, 02:55:48 PM »
Hi everyone. I don't completely understand on how the Hypnosis works. How do people get hypnotized.

As I understand it now, it is like the advertises on TV for example. But I do not understand the principle of psychotherapy hypnotizing. I guess it's something like that: the other party relaxes, concetrates on some thing and then you somehow talk to him, that gets into his mind. But I'm not sure about the details, and if I am even right about this...
In simple - I'm interested on how it works.

there are many applications of hypnosis and so many ways that it could possibly work.

a common aim is the acceptance of suggestions and bypassing the critical functions of the brain.

A common method of doing this would be done for example by giving the conscious mind a specific take or fantasy to engage in. The resulting relaxation and absorption of conscious attention will inhibit certain neurological functions while other other neurological functions can be stimulated and aroused.

From this point subjective reality, schemata, beliefs and cognitions of the subject can be manipulated such that they produce post treatment changes in behaviour, psychology and physiology.

The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

SWM, that's very well said. Typically there is a trigger to trip the 'switch'. This then can cause a person to respond in a way that they did not respond before. It changes the way a person responds. I guess that was already understood. I would like to say that understanding hypnosis, and the way people socialize and develop a personality, is key to potentially mastering how the mind works completely.
