Some hypnosis Faq

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the act of using various techniques, be they conversational or body language related, to control the mind of another person, referred to as the subject.

What is the most powerful form of hypnosis?

By far the most powerful form is that of conversational hypnosis. This is the art of using various phrases, words and prompts to force people to believe what you say, do what you tell them to do or act as you wish for them to act, through everyday conversation. This form of hypnotism is virtually undetectable, as your subjects will simply feel that you are having a normal conversation with them.

How difficult is it to learn?

The basic techniques of hypnosis, especially conversational hypnosis, are not particularly difficult to learn and master. Of course, like all other skills and abilities, it does take time, and the more advanced aspects are far more difficult to learn. However, there are a number of courses available on the Internet that will show you what you need to be shown in order to learn these techniques and principles in the easiest, fastest manner possible.

Can anybody be hypnotized?

Yes, virtually anybody who isn't themselves a master of hypnosis can be hypnotized using basic techniques and principles. It really is that powerful and simple, despite what some people may believe or have been told.

Can an unwilling person be hypnotized?  Someone who does not believe in or agree with hypnosis?  If a person is not open to hypnosis yet agrees to undergo it for whatever reasons, what does it take to hypnotize them?  Are there any special techniques for people who are not open to this?  Do you have an example, like a case study, of this circumstance?

I'm curious about this -- am not learned in this subject, but find it a bit interesting.  My husband is very strong-minded, not easily influenced, a bit on the narcissistic side (not to the point of harming people, though), and not open to things such as religion, hypnosis, and even laughs at the thought of therapy (defense mechanism from childhood experiences).  I wonder if someone like him is able to be hypnotized.

i would like to know more about this too.

Hypnogood i presume the sites in your signature are your sites and are the courses that you offer on those sites your courses?

i have been interested in learning about hypnosis for clinical work for a while and have a looked into a couple of courses. a lack of time and money have prevented me from commiting to any courses yet with more important courses taking priority (CBT).

what can you tell us about the courses you offer?

I know this is an old thread, but......   shortly after my Mom died and because it was "the big thing"   1982, I told my husband, we are going to quit smoking.   We had talked about it for a few years, my Mom had the beginnings of emphaseyma (sp) and I told hubby, NO WAY am I going to die this early like that.  He agreed.  The high school was offering a "Stop smoking" clinic at the school for $25.00 each.  They gave you a small tape that re iterated what the instructor said while we were there.

The way it worked:   You kicked off your shoes, loosened tight clothing and lie down on the mats on the floor, (Hubby had already announced he couldn't be hypnotized, as had at least 3 others).  The instructor dimmed the lights, (elevator music) started in the background and the instructor started his mantra.    Cigarettes are twigs, dirt, poison and leaves.    on and on over and over, and the tape you were to play at least  3 times a day.  (I played mine in the car on the way to and from work).

I had made up my mind to stop and of course I never smoked again.   Hubby who said he couldn't be hypnotized, actually relaxed enough to start snoring during the class..........   he stopped for almost 3 week, started again.  stopped, started, this went on for almost a year and then for his birthday I purchased an unlimited one on one  card with a hypnotist.   He went 3 x and that was it.   He has not smoked since, so I DO believe anyone could be hypnotized and I believe in hypnosis being used for curing bad habits, etc.

Norma, how interesting!!  I wonder if my hubby could be hypnotised.  Project!  Just kidding.  :P

Thanks for sharing this -- I like that you were able to give an example of someone who didn't think he was able to be hypnotised.  :)

its interesting that your husband did not believe in hypnosis but that  he was influenced at some level. perhaps the fact that you where more open to being hypnotised yourself was a factor in your quicker success as opposed to your hubby's

Stan
I totally agree, but to this day, Dick will say he was tired : D      Yet, when I purchased a "as many times as needed" one on one visit to the office of the hypnotist, in just a few meetings he quit.  Either it was the hypnotist or the fact that he knew I spent "my money"  (monies I had saved to buy him christmas, birthday whatever presents without charging them) that helped him to stop/ Whatever it was, it was worth every single cent!!!  I would do it again in a heart beat. I think it gave us at least 20more years. : D

whatever it cost you, you will have earned back through the cost of smokes. plus you get a quality and longevity of life back, that itself is priceless. i think it would be great if hypnosis could really do this. the possibilities of what we can do for people would be great. overcoming the desire to smoke is an obstacle many people cannot overcome on their own. imagine if we could make people to never feel anxious about meeting new people, or to always have great motivation to succeed and not to procrastinate. possibility is endless.
