Trauma counselling post surgery
« on: April 01, 2011, 10:35:27 AM »
I have been counselling cardiac surgery patients pre-op, in ICU and post-op. Some patients display regression and at times, hallucinations. These patients revert back to normal (pre-op) behaviour once out of ICU. What kind of personality structure would be more vulnerable to this kind of behaviour?

I wonder if certain charecteristics would make a person more vulnerable to hallucinations and regression.

charecteristics such as the ability to vizualise or the lucidity of an individuals memory, maybe combined with some inhibition of critical thinking and discrimination resulting in the subjectively experienced reality being interacted with as thought it were the objective reality when under anaesthetic.
The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

I found an interesting side: http://www.psychforums.com/schizophrenia/topic59417.html

Important issue for future research

that schizophrenia isn't dangerous!

that people don't attack who have been treated, but that untreated people attack.

What leads you to believe there is a correlation between personality type and frequency of hallucinations?
That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
