What should I study...?
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:30:50 AM »
I graduated with a BA in psychology couple years ago. I have been taking short courses in Art/Play therapy and I found they are very interesting. If I want to be a child therapist, spealized in art/play therapy, what program should I get into? Some people told me to enroll in Social Work Program but I really don't interest in it.

Well, you should pick an age range that you find that play therapy would work best with and start there. You can go into social work but you should just specialize in child psychology. It might be in your favor.

Hontestly I am quite confused. Is a Master Degree enough for me to be a therapist?

Well, if you get licensed, then you can work in a clinic and such I believe. You just can't have your own private practice.

Correct me if I'm wrong :)

the qualifications that you need to work in a particular role and therefore the program of study that you pursue will eb different depending on your geographical location.

a possible way to find out the requirements would be to look at old and current job advertisements in your local area to see what is required of candidates for the kind of work you are interested in and look at what regulating bodies or licensing arrangements are required in your particular area of work.

SWM is right, it depends on the state and country where you plan to work and also different clinics and centers may require different qualifications.
