"Believe": to take as true, real." (Webster's Dictionary)
« on: August 22, 2011, 02:54:27 PM »
Webster's definition may be true but it is NOT RELIABLE. Webster does not warn that even FALSITIES can be "taken as true. real."
Webster's definition of the word "take" includes the words, assume, choose, suppose, presume.
A clearer definition of the word "believe" could be; " to choose to assume true, real."  Another definition: "believe: to make predictable, known, conditioned, non-variable, enclosed, encapsulated, cocooned in thought."
We virtually, in effect "cloak" ourselves in a thought when we believe it. Notice how IMPENETRABLE some peoples "believed" thoughts are? WARNING: May apply to your beliefs too.

Webster's calls Buddhism a religion.  I don't agree with that.  If Buddhism is a religion, so then is joining the Army or Navy.  They are not religions, just paths that one wishes to follow.  I don't place serious stock in the words of a mass-marketed lexicon of words.
