Considering it is a Social Science like Politic, economics, sociology, anthropology, history, culture and religion, and can be very touchy subjects.  Plus, I have noticed that many times people in jobs specifically working with people dealing with psychological needs are often times really bad at dealing particular needs, and go by this philosophy "One treatment fits all".  Plus today I learned about in psychology there was controversy over whether people who had repressed memories really had experienced these things or had false memories inserted in their mind.

I know that one shouldn't bring up religion or politics in a bar, that is bad politics.  ;)  I'm not sure if the "one treatment fits all" philosophy is accepted or utilized by a greater part of the profession.  That sounds like an over-generalization to me.  Although, you do see a lot of depression medication prescribed; and rather quickly I might add!  Hmmm....

If someone is trying to tell you that all repressed memories were not actually repressed, but were implanted, I'd say that I would not listen to that person any longer.  How do I know?  Because I've seen it from the inside out.

Well it can be if you are talking to people with knowledge of the subject. The only reason religion and politics are very touchy subjects are because people are knowledged of those subjects a lot so psychology can be a controversial subject with good debate and discussion if you are talking to the right people.

Most people who discuss religion and politics--with knowledge; as you say--are not prone to argument (I know, I contradict myself by saying that...  :P ).  I disagree that the subjects are touchy because of knowledge.  It is pride in one's own belief and prejudice that are the sweeping factors of this conflict.  Perhaps you can have a "rousing discussion" on psychology with like-minded persons, but to bring the topic up in general promotes schism.

All topics can be touchy or not, depending on what you consider to be touchy, but in general, I believe that psychology is not touchy as long as it does not go into the realms of the soul and the like, where religion is closely intertwined.

A: Psychology is very touchy. It's in a grey zone between religion and science, and neither camp really wants it.

B: Repressed memories are mostly inserted memories. It's not relevant unless the memory is irreconcilable with reality or otherwise problematic.

@voodoo
Is this to suggest that repressed memories such as physical/sexual abuse at an early age are not relevant until problematic behavior occurs?  I can understand how it would be irrelevant because you would have no reason to look for repressed memories until those behaviors arose, but if you were to acknowledge and deal with those earlier, the problems would potentially not present as problems.

@OP
Well, I was in various forms of psychotherapy between the ages of 5 and 20.  I mean I probably had more than a dozen therapists and each person did their job differently.  Now I only found the last three therapists effective but that may have been what point I was psychologically.  Now based on what helped me, I subscribe to Choice Theory.  I developed what I stand by based on what I found useful to me.  Maybe that's how others have chosen their affiliations.  Which isn't too different from religion and politics where people chose what makes them feel comfortable and as such call their "team" the right team (not attacking anyone there).
