Evaluations Function as Perceptions (in effect)
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:10:47 PM »
How you evaluate something determines if you approach or retreat; like or dislike; accept or reject; etc. reacting to your own thoughts as you do to perceptions.
"All creatures are born 'pre-wired' to react to perceptions." That's a constant. If we could "make/fabricate" perceptions or a facsimile, that would have the same effect on our 'pre-wiring' as 'original' perceptions. We would be able to 'utilize' that 'pre-wired mechanism' the way we 'use' water flow to turn turbines to generate electricity. Aren't you already generating emotional suffering and/or dysfunctional behavior? Of course you don't RECOGNIZE INADVERTENTLY doing so. If you change the quality of your thoughts changes the quality of your emotions and behavior.

Because some readers claim they don't understand what I write about, I will simplify,(redundantly).  Evaluation/judgement/opinion/thought.
" reacting to your own thoughts as you do to perceptions." It's seeing with thoughts as well as with eyes. 'Thoughts' augment; supplement vision the way microscopes and telescopes do.
We don't recognize using thoughts the way we recognize using microscopes and telescopes. 'Thoughts' are not as reliable as the instruments, yet it's 'thoughts' that go unrecognized.

This can be accompluished thru meditation. As you sow so shall you reap. If you think, act, believe a certain way it becomes your nature. To change your nature you can focus on a different belief system.
Time is all we really have.

We do not own the earth. We are borrowing it from our children.

Is that what you really think?

How many ignorant people does it take to destroy a planet?

Earl; I recognize being in a "low mood" as I write this. (colloquially called a "bad mood"). I see we don't understand each other.
What exactly does your "This" that can be accomplished thru meditation refer to? I reread what I wrote.   I agree with , 'As you sow shall you reap'.
"If you think, act, believe a certain way it becomes your nature." I would not use the word "nature" in that sentence, to me, 'nature' means 'inherent' like instincts.
"To change your nature.........." I doubt can be done. If one has gray hair and colors it, does not 'change' nature, coloring merely disguises '
"To change your nature you can focus on a different belief system." My view is, " one belief system per customer." A belief systen can be transcended, but I doubt you can start a new belief system at that higher perspective. Perspective can 'shift' like moods go up and down. A new belief in your belief system does create new reactions, patterns, habits; you  don't/can't create a new belief SYSTEM. There's multiple personalites, but multiple belief systems? Multiple personalities are considered insane.

We are dealing with personel definitions and symantics. I agree that probably no one can change their base nature. That I would think would take a major effort. But we can and do make adjustments on a daily basis.

Example. When I was younger I was more impulsive and impatient. I also was more prone to violence. I realized that this was not a productive course of action in most cases. So I set out to change my "nature". I tried a number of different things and meditation was the one I found that worked the best. Weather or not I actually "changed my nature". is debatable. I still can revert to my past actions very easily if I don't make and effort to control them.

The this I am refering to is your reference to positions in your post. Also people with multiple personalities are not necessarily considered insane. There is a difference between having a mental illness and being insane. Generally someone who has distorted thoughts and actions has a mental illness, but if they are judged to be a potential harm to themselves or others they are considered insane. At least that is how I precieve it.
