Exploring Creativity
« on: June 09, 2011, 06:52:25 PM »
Over some time I've document in detail my inspiration for a number of creative projects.
There doesn't seem to be much 'creativity' around this forum but it's a very interesting psychological/neurological subject worthy of exploration.

I never start my projects thinking 'now then what can I do'... rather 'o my god that is so funny' or 'o my god that is so interesting'.. that I just have to find an effective way to share that.. so rather my inspiration comes from a desire to share something. When I observe people trying to be creative ie: to a formula (think hollywood movies - good verses evil, good overcomes evil, good gets the girl) they are rubbish.. scriptwise many people follow a formular (we have to have a hero, a protagonist, bla bla and make spider diagrams to fit it all in) and they write to a formular and produce absolute rubbish. The same applies to many creative industries. The best stuff is from a simple idea and the desire to share that and the creativity comes in finding a media & making it interesting to people..

Anyway are there any creative people here?
Do people struggle to be creative?
Is is something people have or have not or something that can be learned?

1% inspiration, 99% perspiration which means ya got to LOVE the process because the process is work. There is no magic involved with creating a something.

On the other hand, if creativity is not flowing then there could be a block etc.If one is not creative ordinarily then chances are ... the work part is not figured into the equation.

Yes the inspiration is the 1% but the creative process is really to realise it, it is the best bit. The direction it takes, applying creative solutions to problems as they arrise, I love it all.. I love the end product too and thinking 'how the hell did that become this' and for me, that's the most incredible thing, I never know how it's going to turn out, so it's a surprise to me too. For example if I write a story say I haven't a clue where it's going, but it's like reading, you can't wait to find out even when you're the one creating it, because you know you're going to go somewhere with it, but you haven't a clue where it's going until you arrive there.. oooo it's great.. it's entertaining oneself aswell.
I love my visual arts though, especially my animations, they're so much fun to make and so funny, and I'm always well impressed with the end result, they certainly take on a life of their own.
I don't get blocks, but I get this thing where I want to do anything (vacuum, shop) to avoid having to do creative work, and I don't know why because when I make myself sit down & produce something, it's the most fun a person can have on their own (I kid you not - although people with penis's will probably disagree)..

I'm currently experiences wanting to do anything except work, hense why I'm writing this stuff here :-(

That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Creativity and science rarely go well together.
I would rather look for highly intelligent people who actually knows what they'r talking about, too often I see knowledable people who only preform parrotspeeches.

there seems to be a lot of arrogance in science, do science minded people look down on creative people? they don't seem to value conversation/humour/art but are goverend themselves by hard logic, systems, rules, regulations that doesn't allow them to free themselves for further exploration/deviation/acceptance of difference which can result in new experiences, new solutions, new ideas and so on.
I feel almost sorry for the science minded person who lives their life confined in such a structure.. I'm posting this again, afterall it's a psychology forum and not a science forum.

Creativity & science rarely do together? Science fiction becomes science FACT... scientist get their ideas from creative people and make them a reality...

You say this as if it's a casual thing to make fiction to fact, it would be desireable to relate more to reality, and say in "few" cases fiction has become fact.
