Guilt/Shame/Embarrassment ?
« on: July 19, 2010, 09:58:56 AM »
I'm new to this forum, so Hi to all!

I have a question I have been pondering for a long while. Lets take a simple case scenario: You tell a lie and get caught. There is a particular feeling when this happens, a kind of intense buildup in the chest, don't know exactly how to describe this.
I do not know whether this actually classifies emotionally as guilt, shame or embarrassment, but the physiological feeling is like that of an adrenaline surge.

Maybe it is the freeze/fight/flight mechanism of the limbic system taking over?

Anybody have any information about this and maybe the exact name it is classified by?

Thanks
