I Dream Defeat
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:31:04 PM »
Isn't it interesting how we  thrive in fake memories. We are able to feel anything our mind comes across. My mind is afraid defeat is waiting right around the corner. I often dream about such situations. Can you imagine taking someone to the movies, watching the trailers to figure out what to watch. Of course, through the whole process you're all excited and show all this behaviour to her, and get feedback and feel giggly. And then when you're at the tickets you two forget the exact name of the movie. You run around the establishment, but nobody knows. There are no signs, pictures, advertisement. Absolutely no one knows, almost as if you had dreamed the movie into existence. So how do you feel when the time the movie was supposed to start is closing in? When you look at her, regardless of her “its ok” expression, how do you FEEL? Then you wake up feeling all these crappy stuff in your chest...
Another example. Every time I have to fight in a dream, even tho I practice martial arts, my blows are surprisingly soft, even when using my full strength. So in the dream I'm constantly afraid to close in on the enemy. And of course this ain't the only thing happening in the dream. Usually this person is an obstacle to safety, or to help someone, or just plain trying to kill me...
One time I woke up crying because my father had to die in a dream of mine...
So it is really bothersome to have all these fake experiences where my brain trumps my reality and regardless how perfect or normal the situation I fail, AND wake up feeling it. And I'm wondering if it means anything deeper to me, of it's useful or just means I'm really very scared of life or whatever.

PS: feel free to write anything u think. I don't get upset/offended at ideas so its ok =]

i can relate to alot of these experiences. i have many dreams of being pursued and people wanting to kill me. i have been killed in my dreams. i have dreamt of running and getting nowhere, fighting and having no strength in my punches, or punching in slow motion. at times i have the oppoosite also, like being able to fly and move very quickly.

i have never tried to figure them out. i do think that my dreams have a connection to the deeper parts of my psyche.

what does defeat and failure mean to you?
The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

It could be a psychological barrier your subconscious is trying to overcome on its own.  Or not.  I would suggest that you learn the technique called Lucid Dreaming.  There is nothing weird, occult, sci-fi about it.  It is merely the retention of conscious awareness in the sleep state (this can also be called meditation, trance, etc.).  There are many programs available on the internet with details on how to accomplish this sort of thing.  This way, you can "be there for the action," so to speak.  ; )

I used to fear death, and death would show up in my dreams. Luckily, I was able to overcome this by a realization in waking life. Death is part of life and it can be used to live harder. It is not an "enemy" it is instead a motivator. Defeat is also part of life and it can be used to win. An easy way to do this is by stop looking at things as dichotomies (i.e., either a win or a loss) and instead look at them as a spectrum.

Answer 2 all 3 replies respectively:

1-     Im figuring my definition of defeat: I know that to me it doesnt mean loosing a game or challenge, cuz i can play fighting games w friends and hav fun even while getting my butt kicked. I feel defeat when I feel my efforts are being wasted, meaning im not getting to where i want, like im being held back. A good example would be when in an rpg you level up a couple of times and then die without saving... yeah. So as long as i feel im growing/ learning/ improving im fine.

2-     An interesiting thing about emotions is that theyre like wearing glasses, you gonna see everything according to what you're wearing. And one of the characteristics of emtoional intelligence is being able to recognize internal states instead of being captivated by them. So I wnder, would have everything been fine, regarding the dream, if i had just said "oh well, lets just see something else"? Probably so... lol
Guess my subcobscious aint very emotionally smart XD

3-     I gotta learn to overcome emotion with emotion through reframing! Take an event and change its meaning. Death will still make me dead but i wont feel bad when it happens. I mean, its all in our heads anyways =]. So how do i reframe defeat? I really hav no idea right now.

joke: death being part of life sounds paradoxical doesnt it? =]
