Intelligence : Are There Two Kinds ?
« on: January 02, 2012, 11:32:39 PM »
We know how intelligent dolphins are, etc.  All creature have some intelligence. There's human and animal intelligence. Wikipeda includes plant and artifical intelligence.
Animal intelligence is non-verbal, organismic, natural, innate. Humans have learned, memorized, conditioned, schooling, etc. But let's take a second look at human intelligence.
Before we learn language we have non-verbal, organismic intelligence and so we learn our second source of intelligence using our original source. We learn to walk and talk, obviously we used our natural, innate intelligence to do so. Once we learn language, it seems our natural, inborn intelligence is usurped; relegated to background, even seemingly to "behind the scenes".
Do you use it since you learned to walk and talk? 'It' does not succumb to atrophy just because it's 'banished' from use.
I contend that insights/wisdom come from our 'natural, innate intelligence'. Insights are few and far between'-, that shows  how rarely used, it has to "break into awareness unexpectedly" to be noticed and to make its contributions in spite of our "learning".
Contestants on Jeopardy, 'regurgitate' memorized facts; we call that 'intelligence'? Not long ago the contestants were matched with a computer , called 'Watson". The computer had more info programmed into it so it won. That's not wisdom, nor 'life intelligence'. Being responsive to environment is something else.

Willingness to "not know" is the vacuum for innate intelligence/wisdom to fill with a insight.
We know/learned from placebo-effect how tacit/implicit 'believing' works.
If you come to this site to ask for advice, you not only 'block' your innate, natural intelligence, in effect, you deny it exists; looking in all the wrong places, etc.

I think there are many more than two types of intelligence. I think you are right though that what is thought of as intelligence is unnatural intelligence.

I agree with skepticism over IQ tests though.
