Low Self-Confidence?  Is that a belief?   When you underestimate yourself, you evaluate, which is a thought, then you believe your thought. The thought is not you. ( Your spit is not you.)
"It's hard for you to believe in yourself"? That's your thought and you believe it. Is it possible to think other thoughts instead? You thinking manditory thoughts? Don't you have the freedom to think and believe any thought of your choice?

Spiders weave webs, but they don't get caught in them.
We humans think thoughts, we suffer some and enjoy some.

docjp: I read your "Secrets of Psychology and......etc." I'm impressed.  As I click on references, I see very much reading material; even though very fasinating; it seems to me; to be too much to understand and comprehend by mits * and wits *. they probably want shorter answers.
* mits:- man in the street.  * wits:- woman in the street.

What can you tell me about "believing thoughts." More specifically the "process of believing". We all provide personal/unique content (specific thoughts) but 'believing' is the common denominator we all do, 'believing' is the constant, virtually a 'principle'. I been trying to understand 'believing' most of my life.
To see what I do understand so far about 'believing',  see my post, "Did You Ever Experience Placebo Effect."

The effect you have labeled is a process of duality each person is experiencing all the time, but one only becomes aware of this duality when ones MIND is repressing something from ones conscious awareness..... and one is not entirely lost in the denial process of the MIND.

This is confusing, and rather than think of oneself as possessing a MIND that is capable of causing one to think what ones MIND wants one to think, one dissociates ones experience into something apart from oneself.  This then keeps the "I" as the "controller".  The fallacy in this is that ones MIND allows this game, and even encourages it, if it will keep one hooked into the delusional process.
Who one is, is a Soul.  But ones Soul cannot itself interact with the dimensions of ones MIND,  or ones brain and its thinking.  To help the Soul in this regard, it has what I refer to as the Apapsyche. http://about-psychology.com/apapsyche.html which is the Operational Energy of ones Soul.

All the parts ones MIND presents to one in order to keep one "happy"are easy for the MIND to do.  What is difficult is to rise above ones MIND and its delusional thinking http://about-psychology.com/DM-SI.  Again, it helps to focus on the simple fact that who one is, at ones Core... is a Perfect Soul that is caught in the play of life on this physical plane.  And this will cease at ones death, and one finds oneself in the Astral region in ones Astral body.

Peace
