Could be prosopagnosia.

I've seen a patient with prosogagnosia. I'd consider it to be far more extreme than what this poster is describing. If sure had prosogagnosia he/she would not be able to recognise anyone's face and thus only identify others through voice and other visual cues. It seems he/she merely has an issue of initial misidentification and is aware of the mistake.

Sigma, I read your post in the 'serious' section of this forum. Erik hopes no amateurs post there, I'll comply, I am an 'amateur' as far as neuroscience is concerned.
Do you use Bio-feed back? I'm interested in  possibly using bio-feedback to detect and influence/neutralize 'subliminal/covert beliefs' that cause emotional distress, etc.

I see at the "serious section" of these forums, is courtesy optional, Erik?

Sakoz, Erik is merely being a jerk in that thread and I have no idea why. Perhaps he is attempting to alienate what could have been a friendship or at least mutual respect due to people thinking we are the same person. You can ignore him and post there anyway as I highly doubt he is also qualified for such 'serious' discussion.

Yes, I am very familiar with biofeedback techniques. I have used different protocols with both EEG and rfMRI. Have you read any of the literature in your preferred area yet? I would suggest having a very solid idea of the brain area or protocol you would want to employ to study emotional distress, as 'belief' is an extremely vague concept.
