Psychological testing and learning disablities
« on: August 10, 2011, 06:21:08 AM »
This question is to anyone who has ever given psychological testing.

"Is psychological testing used to see if a person has a learning disability?
If not, what tests are used to see if a person has a learning disability?
A person (not a professional, told me that psychological testing is used to see if a person has a learning disability.

Thanks.

Diagnosing learning disabilities and mental/emotional disorders is just one area of psychological testing.  The tests students take at school are psychological tests (the tests of knowledge and the admissions tests for college/graduate school) , as well as the tests you take at a job to get hired or promoted.
That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

chiatea; Psycholoical testing? Consider this; The whole staff of a hospital took a 'psychological stress test'. The test consisted of a list of events  that cause a number of 'stressor points'.One young, new doctor rated so high on the test, he was told to put his legal affairs in order. He just got the new job, moved here from another state, bought a new home, his wife just had a baby; he was never happier in his life. 'Psychological Stress Test"?  You figure, to me there B.S. ( or at least in this case ).

Enigma; You having a "bad day?"  Note the words, "consider this" as an aside and not a direct answer to his question. "Stress" was a new subject, not what he asked about.
Any respect I had for you was a mistake, but I do hope you " get over your mood" soon .

I also qualified my statement by writing; "at least in this case". See? I'm not suggesting  he 'give up on' psychological testing.

What do you mean by "give up on psychological testing"?
The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

SWM; Enigma wrote "... is just one area of psychological testing." There are others as he points out.
'Stress" is only one of them; I'm just saying that I won't "generalize" and "give up" on all of them just because one was misleading/faulty, nor should chiatea.

would you agree then that it is not the test that is faulty but the interpretations that are made of the results of the test.

bringing this back to the two factors which you are keen on, the facts (or evidence of a reality) and what one believes about that reality.

Yes and no; the test uses the word 'stress' in instances of 'excitment'. ( prolonged 'high arousal' might have the same effects as stress I suppose)
The doctor in question was very happy, yet he was told (as the reults of the test) that 'stress' is 'killing' him. (LOL)
