If psychology is why people think what they think then why isn't philosophy a sub discipline instead of the original discipline?  pljames

Broadly speaking Psychology is the study of human mind and behaviour while Philosophy is the intellectual investigation of problems. so they are different subject areas.

possibly but problems are not synonomous with psychology. wikipedia will explains what psycholoogy and philosophy are and the difference between them is pretty obvious.
