Rehearsing Emotions. ( Is it necessary ?)
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:24:19 PM »
Example: Suppose your scheduled for a root canel next week; each time you think of it , you rehearse the  anxiety you 'expect' to feel then.

After I posted the above, I read it like any other reader; and I laughed.  Did you laugh? If you did, you recognize (intuitively/subliminaly) a 'modicum' of responsibility for your emotions.
( a 'crack' in the consenus that 'emotions are externally caused'.)
Emotions are involuntary reactions to perceptions.(positively true) But if you believe all perceptions are external input from environment then you have problems of experiencing unpleasant emotions.  When you sincerely believe some of your images are real, you 'provoke' your involuntary to react to 'your' "tailored perceptions"; to your "belief-perceptions".

When your in the throe of emotional suffering, you take your emotions seriously and do not laugh (in the moment). You only laugh when your "out' of the throe; when you recognize you 'make' "belief-perceptions" without recognizing doing so. Even though you don't recognize doing so, you still suffer the consequences of reacting to them.

Repeat the phrase, "rehearsing emotions" several time to see if you laugh. It seems ludicrous to believe you can 'rehearse' emotions if you sincerely believe emotions are externally caused.
If you laugh, indicates your not so sure your emotions are externally caused.
