Should prostitution be legalized?
« on: November 09, 2011, 04:06:54 PM »
From a psychological perspective, should prostitution be legalized? I'm not looking for economic or moral arguments. I'm just interested in what a psychologist would say.

From a psychological perspective?  Good question.  What causes a female to place herself at the disposal of males?  And I believe we can remove money from the equation.

It obviously has to do with a "need" to punish father.  That is, a non-conscious need to try and force father to rescue her, and to convey a needed sense of worth to her.  This is the psychological driver, but of course as the actions are rationalized by the females MIND, there are many "reasons" that are created to justify the behavior.
So, to answer the question... I would say no.  To do so would be like legalizing the rape of small children by those suffering from pedophilia .
Peace

I'm not sure most women go into prostitution for unconscious reasons. I think they go into it because (1) they are physically attractive, and (2) don't have other job opportunities for whatever reasons. I'm not an expert on the issue, but that's my best guess, unless I see sufficient evidence otherwise.

The psychological interpretation I expected someone to make is that legalized prostitution would increase the amount of sexual intercourse in society, and thereby improve mental health. Plausible?

i am not sure how one would arrive at the conclusion that selling sex is an "obvious" way to punish the father in order to force father to rescue. would the same apply to male prostitutes? would this apply to prostitutes that have lost the father to death?

it seems like a massive leap of rational thought. a more straightforward rationale for solicitation of sex is the emotional satisfaction that sex and money give. even when receiving payment for sex there could still be an element of enjoyment, control and power taken by the individual providing the service.
The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

docjp, you should really just stick to writing about your "esoteric dementions".  At least with that you exude some sense of a palpable continuity.  And no, I never make unintentional typos.

Your inability to comprehend the non-conscious factors at work behind prostitution are acknowledged.  But surely demonstrating this was not your goal?

docjp, there are three replies after your initial one in this thread which more or less disagree with you.  To which was your latest post referring?
