Snake Dream. Help.
« on: May 08, 2011, 12:47:58 PM »
Okay, I'm totally confused. I had a dream where I was in my porch and there was something odd in the the corner of the wall. I thought it was a hose so I bent over to pick it up. But when I almost touched it, a snake suddenly sticks it's head out and just looks at me. It doesn't hiss at me or shows it's tongue. It just stares at me and I start screaming like a lunatic but no one helps me. I'm all alone in the dream. Everywhere I look ordinary things around the house start looking like snakes. Scared and alone, I end up curled up like a ball and crying in the middle of my bed. I'm there shaking and crying alone, when all of a sudden, a friend who I haven't seen in a while enters my room. He sits on my bed, holds me tightly in his arms and then he soothes and kisses me as I cry and tells me not to be scared anymore, that everything is going to be okay. When he says that, I cry and hold on to him really tight and he continues soothing and kissing me (not on my lips) and that's where it ended.

That dream was scary for me although I felt happy to see this friend in my dreams even though I haven't seen him for a long while. What could this dream mean? I've tried dream dictionary but I can't find an answer that I understand because they all talk about being attacked by a snake. Can anyone help me?

The snake is recognised as a phallic symbol, I'm surprised your books didn't list this.
Here's the metaphores of your dream deciphered.
You are fearful of sex, of penatrative sex. That is what the snake is, a penis. And why it scares you. Your friend enters and he comforts you and kisses you which is sexual but not penatrative and you find reasurance and feel ok and safe in this kind of intimacy. Your dream ended before it went any further because that is what you fear, it going further.
Hope this helps.

lostangel29;  Interpreting dreams is going the 'long way around' instead of 'exposing' the subliminal belief that's the "seed' of the dream. Sometimes interpreting 'works' if the inferences are accurate, and we know the 'track record' of inferences.  Direct perception of the 'causitive' belief requires 'bringing it to awareness' rather then guessing.

Did you ever experience a lucid dream? (A lucid dream is when one is aware that one is dreaming). That too is 'exposing' that the dream is only a dream, by being aware of that fact. Awareness is a key factor in Mental Health.
Lucid dreams is the best metphor for Mental Health, in both cases 'awareness' is the "cure".

Before enlightenment you chop wood and carry water.
After    enlightenment you chop wood and carry water.    So what changes, if not your situation/environment? Your  perspective. Visualize a ladder. If your not on a rung, your IN the dream or if awake your IN your 'drama', and the 'crap'. A lucid dream indicates your part way up the ladder. Enlightenment your at the top, very few get to that 'perspective' but more and more are.

( reacting to dream images is reacting to images; we do that while awake also, simply by UNWITTINGLY believing some of our images are real.)

Lostangle, When I have animal dreams and in particular ones where the animal is just there ... with a power but nearly like a still life ... I usually interpret it as an encounter with instincts which includes MY POWER. So, it is scary to meet up with those parts of self that are ready to be integrated with.

It gets even better when the animal arrives and they are a friend. I had a pet polar bear in a dream once. digging on my polar bear energy. It was cool but there have been others in the past that were exactly like you write your dream out although not a snake.
