Go with the dictionary definition. These terms would not be used in the health and social care professions of my country (UK). Professionals would use more accurate descriptive disorder specific terms. The term insane is often used in the field of law, but then the whole of the legal system is an arcane beast anyway.
The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

I like the connection between mad (angry) and mad (insane)

I believe the more angry we get the more insane (less sane) we are.

Hummm?  Anger (to me) is a emotional reaction to a believed-thought-image (according to Epictetus).
'Insane'? It is used in two ways; 1. Structural defect/damage.  2. Functional; consistently/persistently reacting to beliefs instead of to facts, ( a least part time mix them :)  )
I believe, we're all a little bit insane or part time, ( when ever we believe 'mere' images are real).
