Wandering Mind Keeps Me Awake

So I've read a lot of messages from other people's posts about insomnia and other sleeping problems and still no help yet. I have a wandering mind that keeps me awake to all hours of the night. I usually don't fall asleep much before 5 on a good night.  I'm 20 years old, average shape,  and just want some help.

I've tried blanking my mind out,.....that lasts for about a minute and I catch myself thinKing about other things and get frustrated. I can't keep my mind blank! I've tried reading a boring book, or watching a boring program but I usually wander from either or to random thoughts. I try to think about just one thing, but my mind will relate one thought directly into a completely opposite direction, leading my thought stream endless. When I catch myself on a long thought stream and snap out of it, I start to think of when the exact moment I will fall asleep, and why im not asleep at that moment. If the Tv is on just for the sound to distracted my thoughts, the voices and sounds effects paint a picture in my head creating more thoughts. Same goes for music. but complete silence is just as bad. The slightest noise will cath my attention of starts the mind back up. I keep my fan on constantly to keep noise that im used to and dont ever notice, distracting me from the silence. I will wake up around 8 am, having fallen asleep by 5-6am, just to make myself tired throughout the day,this way when night time arrives I will be tired. But I find myself in the same wandering mind situation and will be up again till 5am. I've tried doing this a few days in a row and no results so I gave up. last I try to head to bed at an early time such as 9pm hoping to sleep by 10. But I will just lay there in bed, eyes closed, complete darkness, complete silence besides my fan blowing, and having the urge to pop my eyes open and let my mind for it's toll, Leaving me awake till the early morning.


Things About Me That May Help Answers..........

-I am just looking for help without the meds.
-I don't drink coffee or anything along the lines of caffeine, mostly juice, and sweet tea.
-I eat properly to my standards.
-I have a good amount of energy throughout the day.
-Clean room, good temp( I've tried hot and cold temps also)
-no stress issues or emotional depression.

I'm just a happy guy with great surroundings. Just can't sleep. =[

The only thing I can think of is this:
1 What are you doing an hour or two before you go to bed. Do not take part in strenuous activity before trying to go to sleep. No video games either. They stimulate the cognivive side of the brain.

2. If I can't sleep? I eliminate anything that is keeping me awake and get in a comfortable position. I then in my mind slowly hear" sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep. This makes me sleepy and I fall asleep.
