This has been aggravating me for quite a while now. I have a couple of friends who get practically everything they want. They're my age and older and they still rely on mommy and daddy for things. One of them is getting a bmw for losing 60 pounds when her father got laid off from work. Seriously? She says she's poor when she's gonna get a beamer. And the other one is freakin out because she couldn't get a brand new car today. She has to wait until Monday. She has to wait 2 days to get a car, that her parents are paying for and she's freakin out. And all of my roommates that I'm living with now are getting they're college and rent paid for by their parents. It's disgusting.

I've worked for everything I've had. I take pride in what I've done. When I was first getting aggravated by their spoiled personalities, I thought it was jealousy running through my veins. Then I realized that if my grandmother offered to buy me a car, I would be insulted. She gave me $20 this weekend because I ran out of money. I was so embarrassed. I don't have the nature to spend all my money and then call daddy and mommy for more like my friends do. Does that mean there's something wrong with me? Should I be excited for them instead of disappointed in the fact that they can't be self sufficient? For not taking a challenge and doing things the hard way for once? Do I have some disorder for hating free money and wanting to earn it myself? It seems that everyone I meet that gets money handed to them on a platter thinks they're poor. When they say that, I laugh. I have $3.23 in the bank right now. But you know what? There will be more money to come for me and I will have earned every goddamn penny. Is that honestly that weird to be proud of?

To answer some of your questions, it's not weird to want to make your own money. I think the ones who get things handed to them believe they are poor because they can't buy it for themselves. They have to rely on someone else, or want to, so they don't have to take responsibility when something goes wrong and they don't get what they want. They can blame mommy or daddy for not getting them their things. So, it could be a responsibility issue but, it also could be a laziness issue. They don't want to work for something that they can get for free.

You should feel proud of the way you get your things. You can appreciate them more for having worked for them and getting them yourself. It's a way to build a responsible life.
