What is your purpose for meditating?
« on: December 22, 2011, 06:56:53 PM »
Is it related to the same reason for using marijuana or psychedelics as a aid to experience a different level/quality of consciousness? That implies there is a 'level' beyond your current, daily, usual mode.  Is it conceivable that there's the possibility of spontaneous "shift/jump" to a higher 'level' perspective of understanding? On current/daily level we unwittingly believe/assume some of our images are real, and as a result , we experience emotional suffering, dysfunctional behavior, stress, etc. There's a level/perspective where those symptoms do not occur, not only do they not occur at that 'level', but from that level those symtoms can be monitored and even vetoed; before they are occur.
Here's the "catch-22"; you can use meditation, marijuana, psychedelics to change your experience of consciousness; but to spontaneously experience, that is to "want"to experience (any volitional attempt) is the antithesis of experiencing 'it'. Rather it's a "orbital jump", your there without knowing 'how' you arrived. It is not 'incremental'. I imagine that's how spiritual enlightenment and born again occur. Your 'there' or your not. When you look at a 2-D and you see a 3-D image, you don't slowly, piece by piece see 3-D, it occurs in a 'flash'. You see it or you don't. Anhedonic? Enough to discourage you?
