Why do people invent a fictive you?

Ok, before you all go, "wha?!?!" 

You know when you dont speak to some people and you have your own group; and you just really see certain people and say hi/bye and thats really it.

Why is it that, those people invent crazy theories about you, make unfounded judgement on who you are, then believe it for real and misrepresent you like your a crazy person? or bag lady or something?

 When your going about your life and not even minding them...

We all have the "subliminal proclivity" to believe everyone of our thoughts as being true/real (of course they are not,all true/real).  They don't recognize what you point out so well.
They unwittingly believe their "invented" thoughts are real facts. That's like believing mermaids, unicorns, centaurs, leprechauns  are real.
Don't make the mistake of believing your images of them is real, you know their images of you are not real, so it's no problem. If you feel any emotions about what they say about you, demonstrates that you too "subliminally believe" some of your images are real.

Warmblanket: It is about power and control and peoples desire to label things. If someone or something is different especially in social groups. It is many times attacked or rejected. This has and still does result in conflicts. People love to gossip and it makes them feel important to spread information true or not.

When I was a kid I had to wear my brothers hand me downs. Other kids would make fun of me just because they recognized that I was wearing the same cloths my brothers wore the year before. My advice is to just ignore them. I have tried in my life several methods to combat gossip and most times it isn't worth the effort. Just face the fact that they are idiots and the fact that you don't stoop to their level and try to be honest. Should give you a sense of satisfaction.
