Just wanted to introduce myself to everybody,
I'm a college kid, currently studying psychology, so i figured a psychology forum would be an intuitive way to keep learning new things and refining my knowledge outside of the lecture hall. It's interesting b/c the only other forum I've been on besides this one was a fan forum for the video game series "Silent Hill" (anyone here who's on the SHH forums, big shout-out lol) which is a survival horror game that deals quite a bit with psychosis, mental and emotional symbolism, and beating the crap out of horribly disfigured beasts and demons

Anyway, my particular focus/goal in psychology is to either do some sort of clinical psychology work or be a licensed psychotherapist. I've toyed around with the idea of doing psychiatry but med-school scares me and my bank account haha. But, I'd be extremely interested to hear from anyone who have aspirations or are currently involved in this particular fields just as far as how it is, what it takes to get there, etc.
I feel like my biggest fascination w/ psychology as a whole for a long time was the mechanics of emotions. Being sort of a sensitive guy, I always wondered why people feel the way they do. I even had a bit of a vendetta against psychotropic medications because I felt that it was just drugging people up instead of really solving their problems (I've since matured and cultivated a more informed and educated opinion on this lol). Now I think my interest has grown more to a want to explore abnormal psychology; the why's and how's of mental "disease" and "disorders". I put those in quotations because I personally think it's more like mental "differences", if that makes any sense. Of course, I'm always trying to be open to different ideas and opinions, and realize that being a young guy, I certainly don't know everything or really much close to that lol. I have some cool ideas though, and I'm eager to jump into discussions and get in some awesome dialogue with everyone.
As far as other little things, I'm big into music (a lot of everything but metal, hardcore, and trip-hop would be my top 3) and play guitar in a band. I'm kind of a nerd but wear it proud, definitely a video game kind of guy, especially the ones that actually have some substance and aren't just you behind a gun shooting things (sorry to those who are diehard Halo or COD people, I just suck at FPS's lol). I like art and books and taking pictures of the world around me. I enjoy anything that's trippy and weird. I like to cruise around on my fixie and go see live music as often as possible. School is also a factor here lol.
Anyway, I look forward to being on the boards and learning a lot from everyone. I am a nice poster, promise

Cheers
