Hey just started here
« on: March 30, 2010, 08:36:39 PM »
So, I just came here, due to an interest I have with Psychology, and understanding some stuff about social psychology, cults, the effects of religion, politics, culture and other aspects affect how we think.  I am open minded to listening to any psychological findings, but disagree with some psychological opinions.  I take psychology in College right now, and would like to take more classes.  I seek to be an architect, and need to learn psychology in order to understand design better.

hi jtalia,

welcome to the forum.

unusual to hear somebody interested in psychology to improve their architecture. although i can see the sense in that.

i cant help but take the bait and ask what psychological opinions do you disagree with?

I dont really agree with the idea that Children cannot begin to remember stuff till they are 4.5 yo.  I remember stuff from as far back as being two years old.

I am new to this site and I am also studying Psychology. You said that you want to be a architect and need to learn psychology in order to understand a design better. I actually am not following. How does psychology help?

Some children do. In my experience usually girls have very early memories. Maybe someone can explain that impression of mine.

It is interesting to be cross-disciplinar and employ one profession understanding in other even if assumably unrelated. It would be interesting to hear some ideas you have how psychology is applied in architecture. Architecture being human oriented takes a lot thinking from how people behave and what they expect from some space in functional and artistic aspects. On the other hand what puzzles me is what early child memory has to do with this whole approach. I may have some theories as why it could be important but would like to hear it rather than incompetently theorize.

good luck with your endeavour
