Can the mind be rational and ill rational?

My wife is on medicine for pain. Sometimes she is rational and sometimes ill rational. Can the person also be this way if not on drugs and what is this called? pljames

what are you noticing in your wife that you describe as "ill rational"?

certainly some medicines could be causing confusion and incoherrent speach. this could also be caused by a number of other things. your best port of call would be a general pratitioner or whoever is prescribing the medication, consultant, pharmacist etc.
