FRIEND IS VERY DEPRESSED: I do not pity him though!
« on: July 05, 2009, 06:32:26 PM »
I have a friend who has pretty bad depression. Basically he use to have a really great job with little work, very high pay, expense account etc.   Anyway, today he is out of work, but he has a 500k home paid for and a hell of a 401k plan.  One day I was taliking to him and he was really down and pissed off because someone at the gym had a Bentley.  I asked him, why does that piss you off and he replied "because I do not have one".

To me this is an unrealistic want. He also gets pissed because he stays in shape and is upset that he is 49 and he can longer pick up 30 yr old girls.

Am I wrong about not feeling any pity for this guy?

the guy is doing a good enough job pitying himself.
And the  LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as  one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Why does he need pity? He can take care of himself(based on your post!). I would pity myslef for not having such an expensive home and savings ;)

Isn't pity a negative emotion? Why would you feel bad for not having it?
