Helping with Valerian Root Supplement
« on: June 03, 2008, 03:36:01 PM »
Many people start taking Benzo drugs and wind up getting addicted.  Here is some advice from me that I've seen work on a young lady.  Get OTC (over the counter) supplements that have valerian root in them and you will see a tremendous amount of stress relief.  These will even help you while you wean off of Benzos.

Benzos are a class of drug that include valium, xanax, ativan, etc..
Benzo = benzodiazepine type

In my opinion, and many people agree, xanax is evil.  If you have to take a benzo, I have seen the best results come from valium or its generic partner diazepam.

I am not a doctor.  I am sharing what I have seen to be true.  Please talk to your doctor about such things before making any changes. :)
imagine that.

Valerian root is an herbal supplement that is commonly used to treat insomnia, although it is sometimes claimed to be helpful for other purposes as well. Valerian root is a perennial plant that has been used medicinally for various health conditions since ancient times.

Side Effects of Valerian Root
Many people believe that natural products, such as valerian root, do not have any side effects. However, many natural products do cause side effects, some of which can be quite serious. Valerian root can cause side effects such as:

Headaches
Excitability
Uneasiness
Morning drowsiness.

Is Valerian Root Safe?
Some people are more likely than others to experience problems due to valerian root. Therefore, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking it if you have:
Seizures or epilepsy
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, or hepatitis
Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:

Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant (see Valerian and Pregnancy)
Breastfeeding (see Valerian and Breastfeeding).

Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Yes, everything has side effects.  Heck, getting up in the morning and stubbing my toe gives me a bad side effect for the whole day and for my family too!

However, as I have witnessed first hand what valerian root did for a gal that had an obsession with xanax, I will jump out on a limb and recommend that it may be worth a try for those that are having a "situation" with benzo class drugs.

ALWAYS talk to doctors and get opinions and make note of side effects!
