If you know Chinese, please help a Compulsive Hoarder
« on: November 22, 2011, 01:32:57 PM »
Hello, I hope your day is going well.

My father has been a compulsive hoarding since I was born. Currently, there are four members in my family and we live in a three bedroom apartment. However, one of the bedrooms is completely filled with boxes of items, the living room has no space to walk, and the other two bedrooms can barely fit more than a bed.

I am at my wit's end and feel like crying right now. My father only understands Chinese, so I was hoping to find some Chinese articles that talk about hoarding. At this point, he does not know that compulsive hoarding is a mental illness. I am planning to show him the Wikipedia article about compulsive hoarding.

I would like more articles though, especially those that talk about why people hoard (for my father, I think it is because he lost most of his family in a war, and he was also poor as a child and didn't have any toys or many items), how hoarding affects family members (my mother and I stress out about it most of the time, and we don't even have space to store our clothing), and how to overcome hoarding.

Please help if you know Chinese. I have a BA in psychology, but do not know how to read Chinese well enough to find articles.

Thank you,
Vic

The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.
