Is it anxiety
« on: June 03, 2008, 11:53:07 AM »
hello, for the past several months i have noticed that in college it has become hard for me to focus/think about something. My mind just completely blanks out, like when i read a question in class i have to read it several times before i understand it clearly. when i get stressed out i kind of get a pressure behind my forehead like a sinus headache, and sometimes a little bit of tingling on spots of my head. Like in math if i just cant follow a lot of things and i just cant "wrap" my mind around it.

does this sound like anxiety to you guys?

im pretty sure both my parents take anti deppresents for stress/anxiety so i think it may have been passed onto me. and also like in class when i have to answer questions alloud it takes me a while to formulate an answer, but most people can talk a while on the spot instantly. i always get all worried that i have a bain tumor but have never had a seizure or like balance issues or anything like that.

This does sound like anxiety, I can see from what you say that you worry about things, this is also a sign that you will experience anxiety.

It is very possible that you have inherited this from your parents.

Look into ways of relaxing meditation and exercise are good.

Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness, apprehension, fear, or worry. Some fears and worries are justified, such as worry about a loved one or in anticipation of taking a quiz, test, or other examination. Problem anxiety interferes with the sufferer's ability to sleep or otherwise function. It is noteworthy that teenagers are particularly susceptible to having irritability as a symptom of a number of emotional problems, including anxiety. Anxiety may occur without a cause, or it may occur based on a real situation but may be out of proportion to what would normally be expected. Severe anxiety can have a serious impact on daily life.

Hi, I have experienced anxiety and some of your symptoms could be anxiety but suspect is due to other reasons. Blanking out could be your thoughts are elsewhere ?new relationships  ;)(very comon in college)?, you are not interested in your chosen subject, or have a tutour who does not stimulate your imagination. You have overiding worries that you cant put aside during lectures. Are you drinking or taking drugs, eating and sleeping well?
At your age hormones are haywire.  I think we all have a low self esteem worrying what our peers think of us. This does eventually go. I am 50, and when I look back on photo's i can see how beautiful I was, though i always thought I was ugly.  (sadly too late now) :D :D
As for talking in front of people I too have a huge problem worrying what i intend to say. As it gets closer to my turn  anxiety increases. I think most people find this uncomfortable, and we either clam up, or babble on.
As you are aware of your blanking out try making a concious effort to concentrate, take notes etc. ignore other thoughts that come into your mind, think if you are on the right course.

from what you say I would say your anxiety is normal, so try not to worry.

There is also a possibility you are unwell. i.e glandular fever, so a trip to the doc may help.

wishing you well
