Lack of enthusiasm
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:15:05 PM »
What is it with the lack of enthusiasm in those of us with Clinical Depression?
How do you deal with it?
What do you do to get some enthusiasm back?

Activity scheduling. Goal setting. Even those take enthusiasm.

I've got the goals. I've got lots of things to do, but my brain says "who cares".

Maybe just scheduling the start time would help. "Start the ball rolling".

Thank you.

these do take enthusiasm and the negative voice needs to be challenged also.
so cognitive restucturing, challenging the cognitive triad goes with the activity scheduling and goal setting.

It's not everything that I lack enthusiasm. For my day job I have enthusiam because it's already structured and scheduled, no problem. But, when it comes to things that cannot be scheduled and structured, like making stuff, the enthusiasm is weak and discouragement is strong.  I think it may have to do with the fact that I live in an apartment full of freeloaders (welfare, section 8, etc.) They look down on busy people. They question you when you do something that requires ingenuity and work. I can be defiant of them, or stay inside and watch TV like the rest of the building while my personal projects keep getting older and more numerous. Also, if it disturbs the 'peace' I could be cited, and end up in court. But the traffic 100-feet away is louder than me, so I could fight it in court provided that my noise was during normal hours (6a-9p).
