MY AMYGDALA IS STUCK ON. NEED HELP!! PLEASE REPLY
« on: September 24, 2011, 05:10:48 AM »
What is the best way to recondition it to the off position? I can also feel it. In the form of pressure between my eyes. It is the result of repetitive obsessive stressing which in turn caused a major panic attack. This event caused a panic cycle that has lasted for 3 months. Though the cycle has slowed down as I have adapted to it. I really need some suggestions. Questions are below. Thanks.

Will it ever turn off on its own?

How can I recondition it to reset to normal?

What should I expect with this condition?

Techniques that help ease symptoms?

First off, you're having recurring panic attacks, and it's perfectly normal for panic attacks that go untreated to recur until you deal with them. They're complex problems, not an on/off switch in a particular brain center. You need to see a mental health professional if you've been having recurring panic attacks for three months.

Sadly, it won't "turn off," because panic attacks are complex problems that just happen to involve the amydala as one component. You can see a mental health professional who will help you "reset." Get someone with CBT experience, preferrably. You should expect it to continue to recur and likely become increasingly debilitating for you until you see a mental health professional who is qualified to help deal with your problem.

There are no self-help techniques that will reliably solve panic attacks, though after this post there will probably be a horde of quacks claiming meditation and yoga and 'Vedic Science' will save your immortal soul or whatever, but it is unreliable on the best of days and directly harmful on the worst. Alternatively, you could learn real psychology, but that might be impractical since it takes 4-6 years of full time study and you'd be having panic attacks the whole time you'd be studying it. Instead, I suggest seeing a mental health professional.

If you are not yet convinced that the logical, rational thing to do is see a mental health professional for your recurring panic attacks, please post your doubts here and I will reassure you why what you need to do is see a mental health professional, but it would be great if you'd just go straight to seeing mental health professional.

Hope I got through and it works out well!
