Repeating words or half words...
« on: November 07, 2010, 11:55:48 PM »
Hi everyone.
I sometimes repeat words (which I think, I say not clearly. I speak not loudly though...), more often first part of the word. But only words, which have breaks in the middle, or something like that, or big change of letters' sound in the middle... Not the ones, that are hard for other people to pronounce, those are okay for me.
And I repeat them not always, just sometimes. Not always in a tense situation. Sometimes I can talk perfectly clearly while being in a tense situation, at other times, I can talk with these repeats, which speak completely relaxed.
That is more common, when I haven't got much sleep, but happens, when I have a lot of sleep too.

What is this, and is there some treatment for that?

I kind of do the same thing, but in a different sense.  It's called palilalia.  It can sometimes be a symptom of Asperger and Tourette syndromes.  Other times, though, it can just be the person rerunning words in their head as a sort of double check for various errors.

I'd suggest looking into palilalia, Asperger's, and Tourette's.  This repetition could be the gate to answering a million questions you've had since you were a child.  It was for me.  =]

Hi, acousticeagle. Thanks for your answer.
It's kinda different for me. It's like... You are unable to turn your tongue the right way to spell the letter needed to insert in the word, after the part of the word you said. Like... Hmmm, This is not the word, as I don't speak English very often, when I do, I tend not to repeat anything I say, unless it's a complex sentence. As you might remember - I'm not a native English speaker. So hmm... Let's say this: 'dingle'. I could spell it din din dingle. It's not many words in English, that requires such a change in letters... Or I just cannot think of them now. Anyway, the point is, that I fail to turn my tongue, when it requires a completely different sound to say the word in the middle of the word. That's when I repeat it. It could happen 1 time, it could happen 5 times.
My mother said, that I started doing that, when I was bit by a dog, maybe 15 years ago. Then she said, that she's cured me somehow, talked to me, or something like that. I was unable to say letter "r", but not in English way, it's spelled like... "AR" in English, it's different in here. You need to position your tongue in some special way to say that. So that's where I fail. I am unable to move my tongue, when it requires to say those... uncommon and different sounds.

As for those psychological sicknesses, like Asperger's for example, I was checking on many, many psychological diseases, and I've to admit, I've symptoms of almost every one of them. I've checked xx of them. So does my friends, and everyone around me. Which leads to an explanation, that psychological sicknesses are just names for peoples' behaviors, which would be opposite to another guy with another psychological sickness, and to get threated differently by law and some people (in many forms...). To this explanation, I've come a long time ago, just without an argument.

As for your second question... Well, I've made a few threads, they weren't answered, so I kinda vanished out of the forums. I haven't wrote them in an other forums though... Other peoples' threads are very interesting too, often, but I guess, my threads was the thing, that kept me here, I mean... You come to check out your threads, then when you are already in, you have the motivation to continue the search for other probably interesting threads.
As for the personalities, there's plenty of threads I've created, which aren't answered. I will add them to my signature, and post one more personality, I was thinking about some day, yesterday, I think.

Most of people who speaks in the second language has some problems. I tend to get stuck when something is difficult to say- like you I have 'r' pronunciation default, or I can say something in my native language to a British person if I'm very tired or if I'm in different country and I'm surprised I can start speaking in all the languages I know at once with a funny effect (I laugh I have Babel Tower syndrome ;))But it seems to happen to most of not native English speakers, apart from the really good ones. Most of the foreigners I know complain just the same like me.
