Happy music for sad times
« on: August 14, 2008, 12:08:48 PM »
Or what kind of music do you listen to when you're mournful, depressed ,downhearted , disappointed whatsoever and that would raise your mood and make you see the life in rose ?

I would list for now :

Dire Straits /Walk of life
Bobby McFerrin/ Don't worry , be happy
Carpenters/ Sweet sweet smile
Mungo Jerry/ In the summertime
Leonard Cohen / Dance me to the end of love
Charlie Pride / Kiss an angel good morning

i love that mungo jerry track

bob marley legend album makes me feel like "every little thing gona be aright"
there is an album by finley quaye from about 10 years ago, i cannot remember the album name most of the album is feel good. this song called even after all is a hug for my soul.

Even After All

Even after all the murdering
Even after y'all suffering sow (seeds)
You know I love you so
You know I love you so and so
Even after all
All that you go on... sir
Is the order of the day
And all that you believe... sir
Is the order of this society
You know I love you so
You know I love you so and so
Even after all
Tis is my manner y'all
Man just feel satisfied
No competition, no competition at all
I just feel satta star
Them eyes are gorgeous girl
No demise
Uprise
I got to raise it again
Them eyes are gorgeous
I must advance
I don't check for no superficial
It's got to be beneficial
These sonic fruits, these sonic fruits... sight
These sonic fruits
Got them moving around alright
Hyper play
Steppin' and rising
Even after all the murdering that go on
Even after all oh no your suffering sow (seeds)
You know I love you so
You know I love so and so
Even after all
You just survive soldier
And your soul is beautiful
And your soul is good
And the  LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as  one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

And your soul is good

I like these lines ...sound like positive psychotherapy .

Another 'happy" song for me is "Bright side " by Lissie , you may listen it

It's just me and my puppy
together were so very happy
and a bit of world won't bring us down
i'm looking on the bright side of things
...na,na,na ....

reading over the above list of music gives me a lot of impressions of the type of person you are.

i associate certain music with with cetain qualiites of people and then when i read a long list like this i get so many images of what you are like.

i think to myself are this person must be such and such and so and so. and then i remind myself i canot possibly rely on assumption smade from a simple list of music.

or can i?

if i gave a list of my favourite music would you make assumptions about who i am and would you rely on those assumptions?

Only "loosely".  As a rule, I try not to drink my own Kool-Aid to begin with (do you have that colloquialism in the UK?), so to begin with it's not an absolute.  I do think it means some basic things though- a capacity to relate to different things/people etc, a broader e-motional experience maybe and such.  Not going to make an assumption though, simply because a person listens exclusively to (fill in the blank)...

I was once told by my mentor that you are shaped by 3 things - the music you listen to, the books you read, and the people you associate with.  I find myself agreeing with him because these things influence our minds, attitudes, and outlook on life.

I love Christian music - it eases my soul and lifts me up.  Jeremy Camp is a fave of mine.  Casting Crows is another.  I like the alternative/contemporary type of Christian music.

I prefer sad music during sad times.   I put on some depressing albums, wallow in my own misery for a bit and then I'm all better.  I guess it helps validate and acknowledge my emotions.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Some of his stuff is just so beautiful, deeply passionate!

He wrote stuff for Nina Simone.

Shorter pieces of Bach do it for me , such perfection, again incredibly passionate , you wonder of the mind of a person who can create on this level.
Glenn Gould who plays Bach, very special place for me ,total immersion in playing .
Doubt that he did anything in life half-heatedly?

Simple Minds, some of it very mystical and uplifting!

Horton
