POEM: A Life

A Life

She wakes up and she goes away.
At the break of day
She's gone away.
She quits smoking cigarettes today,
Too much to pay
With life foreclosing.

Better to cry,
Cry alone
Than alone and hoping.
Better to die,
Dying alone
Is easier than coping.

She feels a little while she'll see
What life can be.
Is it out there waiting?
She quits shooting dope for free,
Her silent plea
To save her body.

Better to cry,
Cry alone
Than alone and hoping.
Better to die,
Dying alone
Is easier than coping.

The sky is too high to reach
From a lonely cave atop a mountain.
Seas of misery have no tide
And won't subside just because you want them.

She wakes up and she goes away.
Suddenly today
She's gone away.
She quits shooting dope for free,
Her blatant plea
To keep her body.

Better to cry,
Cry alone
Than alone and hoping.
Better to die,
Dying alone
Is easier than coping.
