POEM: Her Hair

[Written while on DSL. Wait, it wasn't a digital subscriber line... Um, well, it was some combination of those three letters.]
(written in 2003)

Her Hair

What color was her hair?
The textures change as the hues erupt into a frenzy of climatic perceptions.
Touches are tasted and smiled upon.
Colors are wasted and piled on.
Excess denies not success of a perfect world.

Under the light the color is pale,
Fear not, it is only yourself that you can fail.
But upon what fatal pledge did I deem myself worthy of humanity?
Give up on me, I failed you.
Give up on me, I'm not worth it.

It's all addictions in my head I know,
But all such thoughts just came too slow.
I'm sorry, I did you wrong.
I was your bird that flew away,
Like a soft West wind out to play.
I am the shadow at the edge of your mind;
Ignore me, it only helps me withdraw farther.

What was God thinking when he gave me life?
Was it just a fluke or a nagging wife?
"Send out one to see the worst."
Give up on me, I broke my word.
Give up on me, I'm a wretch.
Give up on me, I deserve death.

If I had super powers for just one day
I would fly up to the heavens and punch God in the face.
Isolated, lonely, solo, alone, incomplete:
I am the bass line of a song called "Thinking."
Do you want me to sing or play the guitar,
Degenerate myself to the state of a puppet?
NO MORE!

...If only I would have said to her, "I like your hair..."
