I was wondering if anyone else has been affected with societys views on mental illnesses.

I know I am having a hard time telling anybody about my suicidal feelings because I don't want to be labeled as a freak. I can see all my family now making fun of suicide. I'm not close to my family, and they are already not to fond of me.  No idea where to go from here.

don get away from your family . That doesn look good .tel your problems to your dearest ones.They can give suggestions which can help u really in getting back to a new life which u wanted . U can play ur original role then . have fun . never ever try to attempt suicide that will surely prove that yoy are a coward. keep thinking .

sorry i never picked up on this post before now, no one here thinks you are a coward, the fact is people would not want you to take your own life and so they try to find ways of discouraging you. i am sure this is something simlar to what you family are doing. it may be a help if you can tell us a more about your family and what you think is wrong with your relationship with them.

what has happend or is happening in your life that leaves you feeling this way?

Society sees many mental conditions as abnormal, however biologically and socially speaking ,many conditions are indeed just that. That does not mean that you are hopeless or a freak however. You can change with incentives, it is up to you however. Good luck to people out there.

Do not fret I too have been in your shoes. I grew up rough and have seen a lot of suffering in my lifetime. I have had many people look down upon me for my suicidal feelings and many blow them off as just talk or some tell me I am crazy but many more have told me to "just fight it."  Which as sufferers we know is a nice idea but simply harder than it sounds.

Sometimes it takes actually getting family and loved ones the proper information to help them understand what you are going through. If you think back to before you had these thoughts and on to how you viewed emotions you had a sense that there was some control you had over them and you do. But when you hit rock bottom you lose that sense of control and that is why others who have not been there do not understand. Not because there is something "wrong" with you but simply because they can not avidly comprehend the struggle that goes on in you daily because they still have that sense of control. You can not let these people  get to you though do not let another's ignorance be a festering thorn in your side. You either need to get them some information on it (pamphlets-Doctors notes or bring them to the Dr with you) or you need to do your best to avoid those who make you feel like a "freak" and focus on those who understand that you need support not criticism to get you through this. ---
