LOL....I apologize for my mirth.  What helped here is not Yoga, it was simple exercise (viz. stretching).  All of this that us Westerners call Yoga is most certainly not Yoga.  At the very, very best what you are thinking of as Yoga is merely a preparation for the preliminaries - a commercialized form of Hatha Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatha_yoga).  Yoga means Union.  Traditionally, the Yoga or Union that is sought is of the subject and object.  The "I" and the "not I".  This Union of the subject and object is called Samadhi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam%C4%81dhi).

For anyone interested in true Yoga, and not this mass-marketed "exercise", here are some key concepts:
- The Upanishads
- The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
- Raja Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raja_Yoga)
- Bhakti Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhakti_yoga)
- Karma Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma_yoga)
- Jnana ("gee-ah-nuh") Yoga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jnana_yoga)

I agree that yoga is actually a holistic approach for develop our physical, mental and spiritual capacity, and the ultimate goal is union between our small unit "I" and the cosmic "I".  Hatha yoga, or asanas, or yoga postures is part of what yoga practitioners doing to reach the ultimate goal. Asanas is done to get physical health and mental balance. But, doing yoga postures alone without doing other aspect of yoga if  fine. It will benefit our physical and mental condition anyway.

Tis better than trying to build the biggest paper airplane, or some such figure.  Samadhi, suh-MAY-dhee, aych-jee-ay.
