This youtube video represents a most perfect trait of keeping crappy graphics out of a song video.  A black, blank screen is all you need to see when your mind is aurally entranced by the siren of a sweet song.

Oh, wait...  This next one belongs in another thread we have on the site...

unusual to see something original in the UK charts. however this just got to number 1 and i have to say deserves to be there. it has arrived there on its merits not on bought airplay and chat show interviews.

The so-called miraculous powers of a great master are a natural accompaniment to his exact understanding of subtle laws that operate in the inner cosmos of consciousness.

This track represents Pink Floyd inventing their own sound again; since Syd Barrett had left years before.  Syd Barrett really is a lost, unrecognized gem.  His work on The Piper At The Gates of Dawn is like a direct injection of 60's psychedelia music to the aorta.  The sound of "Echoes" really showcases the merging of the psychedelic rock of the 60's with the blues dominance of the 70's.  (Sabbath, Zeppelin, Zappa, Stones, etc..)  --Blues definitely influenced the 60's as well (The Doors, The Crystals, The Beatles, and the shadooby love rug).

Did the Beatles do this song as well?

Nope.  I think it was just the Kinks.  The Davies brothers were awesome.  It does sound like the Beatles.  The Kinks must have been keen on that formula...

The key indicator, Earl, is the bass guitar.  Paul McCartney is a much, much better bass guitarist than the bassist of that Kinks track displays.  Paul is so underrated as a bass guitarist.

Listen to JUST the bass guitar:

PS
In this song the bass guitar is panned hard to the right side.  ;)

I have my speakers hooked up backwards. So it came out on the left side, but I see what you mean.  If I had them hooked up the right way I couldn't reach the adjustments. Many times the Bass is just boom bang, boom Bang. Something really simple that just accompanies the drums pretty much, but that is more like a lead guitar? Good example. Namaste Earl

Other good examples:  (remember, the bass guitar)

Non-Beatles (non-Paul):

(The bass is in perfect harmony with the guitar.  Listen to the bass when Ian sings "back hurting bad".  And REALLY listen to the part where he sings "do you still remember December's foggy freeze?")

Jethro Tull Aqua Lung was released when I was in High School. I used to blast it out of my car all the time. It was one of the songs I took to "the cave" a cave my friends and I found along a creek. We were the first people to find it. At least in modern times. We found flint points and other artifacts just laying on the floor of the cave. Stalactites were growing from the ceiling. ( I can't remember which comes from the ceiling and which comes from the floor.) The entrance was completely overgrown so you couldn't see it. We brought a Boom Box and cranked it up. We played all kinda R&R songs. Filled the place with smoke so to speak. Those were the days.

Earl, your story is probably one of the coolest anecdotes I have ever read.  Stalagmites grow from the ground, stalactites from the ceiling.  So you're correct.  ;)  I had to use Webster's myself.

Links and chains were so far away, like you used to do.  I was as crazy as you Earl.  Time denigrates the space, but there is Love.  Love Love Love, JL said it, so don't forget it.  Time is a fabricated story.  Blues.  Blues.   Blues.  Blues.

Time is a fabricated story.

Excellent statement. Once time has passed it is only a memory and that is subject to interptation. How I remember it and how I don't want to remember it come into play.

Great youtube video visual.  It sums up my memories and love of this track perfectly.

Was Paul getting high with Brian Jones when he wrote this one?
