I am a huge fan of P!nk. Listening to one of her lesser known songs: "Words". The song is pretty much amazing.

Verse 1:
I can’t sleep when I think about the times we’re living in,
I can’t sleep when I think about the future I was born into,
Outsiders dressed up like Sunday morning,
With no Berlin wall what the hell you gonna do.

Chorus:
It’s a New Year,
I’m glad to be here
It’s a fresh spring,
So let’s sing.
In 2080
I’ll surely be dead
So don’t look ahead,
Never look ahead

It’s a New Year,
I’m glad to be here
It’s the first spring,
So let’s sing.
And the moon shines bright
On the water tonight
So we won’t drown
In the summer sound.

Verse 2:
If you find me I’ll be sitting by the water fountain,
Picket signs, letdowns, meltdown it’s Monday morning
But it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright
It’s alright,
Cause in no time, They’ll be gone I guess I’ll still be standing here.

Bridge:
Yeah Yeah we can all grab at the chance and be handsome farmers,
Yeah you can have twenty one sons and be blood when they marry my daughters,
And the pain that we left at the station will stay in a jar behind us.
We can pickle the pain into blue ribbon winners at county contests.

Life is easier when one of us is dead
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey
I will wait a year
No one starts to hear an accidental fall
And they won't suspect a thing at all

Wait for the summer
We'll sleep when we wanna
Don't tell your mother
We'll leave when we
We'll leave when we wanna

And I have dreamed about it
Now I read about it
And I can't grieve about it
And I can't heeeeeeeeeey

Someone help me
Someone help me
Someone help me please
Someone help me
Someone help me
Someone help me please

It's an accidental fall
And they won't suspect a thing at all

Wait for the summer
We'll leave when we wanna
Look at your mother
Is that who ya
Is that who ya wanna?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ooooooh Oooooh
Ooooooh Oooooh

Tell my lady here what I was drinking
And in not too long, won't she start screaming?
What a proud old man, what was she thinking?
I hear her voice sometimes, when I've been drinking

Tell my lady here what I was dreaming
And in not too long, what was I thinking?
What a proud old man, won't she start screaming?
I hear voice sometimes, when I've been…
When I've been drinking

Rising rising falling down
I'm rising rising falling down
I'm rising rising falling down
I'm rising rising falling down

I'll kill my baby with a .45
One last shot right into her head
And I'm falling falling falling down

SINK INTO THE RIVER!
SINK INTO THE RIVER!

Tell my lady here what I was drinking
I'll kill my baby with a .45
One last shot right into her head
And I'm falling falling falling down

SINK INTO THE RIVER!
SINK INTO THE RIVER!

I hear her voice sometimes
When I've been
When I've been drinking

Rising rising falling down
I'm rising rising falling down
I'm rising rising falling down
I'm rising rising falling down

Everything I Own
-------------------------
You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you
And...

(Chorus:)
I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give ev'rything I own
Just to have you back again

You taught me how to love
What it's of, what it's of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go
And...

(Repeat chorus)

(Bridge:)
Is there someone you know
You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted?
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear
The words you long to say

(Repeat chorus)

Just to touch you once again

[If you people knew what this song meant to me and one of my first girlfriends...  She was Spanish-speaking/Latino btw.  ;)]

A bullet had found him
His blood ran as he cried
No money could save him
So he laid down and he died

(One of the most poignant lyrics ever to be recorded IMHO.)

I would like to take this time to introduce a very real 'Partridge Family-esque' band.  The vocal harmonies and chord progressions are simply mellifluous.  "Always For Me" is simply beautiful...those vocal harmonies....  Won't you give them a listen?

http://www.myspace.com/musicbycharbutler

[edit]
Yeah, their rhythm section needs to lose the drum machine sound, a human drummer would make their songs much better.  But still...

Ah, so that's the formula.  I checked them out on youtube when you first posted about them in this thread and was surprised actually.  Cool stuff Enigma, I mean that.  I love having my palette augmented.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Some of his stuff is just so beautiful, deeply passionate!

He wrote stuff for Nina Simone.

Shorter pieces of Bach do it for me , such perfection, again incredibly passionate , you wonder of the mind of a person who can create on this level.
Glenn Gould who plays Bach, very special place for me ,total immersion in playing .
Doubt that he did anything in life half-heartedly?

Simple Minds, some of it very mystical and uplifting!

A classic that i heard while out in a restaurant inspired me to look up an ancient band

And the  LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as  one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Peace Frog
----------------
There's blood in the streets, it's up to my ankles
She came
Blood in the streets, it's up to my knee
She came
Blood in the streets in the town of Chicago
She came
Blood on the rise, it's following me
Think about the break of day

She came and then she drove away
Sunlight in her hair

She came
Blood in the streets on the river of sadness
She came
Blood in the streets, it's up to my thigh
She came
Yeah the river run red down the legs of the city
She came
The women are crying red rivers of weepin'

She came in town and then she drove away
Sunlight in her hair

Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding
Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile eggshell mind

Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven
Blood stains the roofs and the palm trees of Venice
Blood in my love in the terrible summer
Bloody red sun of fantastic L.A.

Blood screams her brain as they chop off her fingers
Blood will be born in the birth of a nation
Blood is the rose of mysterious union

There's blood in the streets, it's up to my ankles
Blood in the streets, it's up to my knee
Blood in the streets in the town of Chicago
Blood on the rise, it's following me

Daniel is travellin' tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights headin' for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
Oh it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

They say Spain is pretty though I've never been
And Daniel says it's the best place he's ever seen
Oh and he should know, he's been there enough
Oh I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal
Your eyes have died but you see more than I
Daniel you're a star in the face of the sky

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal
Your eyes have died but you see more than I
Daniel you're a star in the face of the sky

Daniel is travellin' tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights headin' for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
Oh it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes
Oh God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

You know a band sold their souls to Satan when the live version of their song sounds as good as, if not better than, the studio version.

The Outsider
-------------------
Help me if you can
It's just that this is not the way I'm wired
So could you please,
Help me understand why
You've given in to all these
Reckless dark desires
You're lying to yourself again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, put it on the faultline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess. Why would I want to watch you?

Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die

Medicated, drama queen, picture perfect, numb
belligerence
Narcissistic, drama queen, craving fame and all its
decadence
Lying through your teeth again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, put it on the faultline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess, why would I wanna watch you?

Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die

They were right about you
They were right about you

Lying to my face again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it put it on the faultline
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Over this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess,coalesce,coalesce!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet at a time
What's your hurry, everyone will have his day to die
If you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama
prove sincere,
Do it somewhere far away from here

The Freshman
----------------
When I was young I knew everything
She a punk who rarely ever took advice
Now I'm guilt-stricken, sobbin', with my head on the floor
Stop a baby's breath and a shoe full of rice, no...

Can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise,
And we'd never compromise.
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of valium and slept
And now he's guilt-stricken, sobbin', with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept
He said:

I can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise,
And we'd never compromise.
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

Hey ay ay ay yeah
Hey ay
Hey ay ay ay yeah

We've tried to wash our hands of all of this
We never talk of our lack in relationships
And how we're guilt-stricken, sobbin', with our heads on the floor,
We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip
We'd say"

I can't be held responsible
'Cause she was touching her face
And I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise,
And we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

For the life of me I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise,
And we'd never compromise
For the life of me I cannot believe we'd ever die for these sins
We were merely freshmen

We were merely freshmen
We were only freshmen
