Good luck with your chemo.

Thanks I have good doctors and I have done a lot of research on the treatment. I have been taking herbal supplements for 10 years that have slowed it down, but it is time to bring out the big guns. Good luck to you and may good fortune be yours.

Is that what you really think?

If an ending to this debate was possible, it already would've ended in the world and people wouldnt be dying because of it daily!

If instead of arguing their own religions to others, people would fully understand their own religion fully--*drip, drip, drip* [ I mean the word "fully" very fully ]--we would have a great beginning to solace.  But such dreams are best left to poetry...

youre right pert,
a lot of people follow religions without even knowing 1% about them. I've spent years studying the 3 "holy" books, i can literally quote, yet im an atheist. So ironically, i know more about their religions than most of the followers do! ive never thought about it before! its kinda funny!

To which holy books do you refer?  I have found the Dhammapada, the Upanishads, Liber CCXX, the Bhagavad Gita, the Book of Ecclesiastes (Christian Bible), Liber Tzaddi vel Hamus Hermeticus, and others I'm sure I slighted at the moment, to be the most practical of religious texts; assuring certainty rather than faith, empiricism rather than subjective determination.

:P  I'm no atheist, but I am by no means religious either (wrap your head around that one. ;) )  I could easily outquote most self-labeled Christians, and I would love to get into a theological debate with a minister...  Ahh well, I'm happy to just post my poetry on this forum.

God is an interesting question? Science and religion were at odds with each other for a long time...maybe still is?  Some people say that religion is ignorance... we were looking for something and we just threw it in the catagory of a higher power.  I have seeen more scientists looking at religion.  Why.  It's the principle behind the scientific method.  Come up with an idea.  Test it.  Check results and modify the idea.  Science has come up with so much in our lives...modern medicine...computers... practicality for a better life. Yet, we still want to know how creation itself ticks...

15 years ago... theortical scientists believe in the big bang...and that all matter will attract itself and the universe will eventually stop.  And come back in on itslef because of the overpowering force of gravity itself.  we called it the "big crunch."  The universe draws itself back into the single point that was it's starting point...and probably starts over again.

Then we found dark matter.  The universe is excellerating away from itself.  And, billions of years in the future, if we are still around, we will see that sky is completely black...all stars...galaxies and everything is so far away?  Light will never be able to travel to our planet and we will have a completely black sky and be totally and utterly alone by ourselves...  the sun will phizzle out all planets will lose there orbits and we, on planet, will be utterly alone...

Thus, our scientific methos...forever changing...creating new ideas.  Once we know something....it will challenged and new things and ideas come out of it.

Here's a question.  Science is man made!  We look at evidence around us.  We base everything on evidence.  Is science making us understand the univerese and be like gods...or are we just trapped in mounting questions?  Someone will challenge what we know now.  Soon, new ideas will form.  The more quickly we think we are being godlike, a nother question comes...new theories replacing facts.

Great people, before science, which is only 500 years old, were telling us, "You can't understand this?"  Were they wrong...because ignorance...or, were they understanding human fraleties.   We cause and effect.  What caused the universe to be so complicated.  If the univerese was formed by sinularity.  What caused the singularity?  Will we ever know the answer...or will we forever be filled with questions of science (man made)?

More partical physists and coming to the realization that the complexity of the universe just can't be all cause and effect.  Something started the blueprint.  Who did....or what did this.  They start to realize that some intellegence must start the universe.

Athiests will say there no proof.  Proof is based on what we know.  what we know changes all the time.  We are always questioning everything and finding new answers to old questions...and, there aways be a new question to answer.  For thousands of years...people take a leap from cause and effect...what they can not understand and make choice.

It's called faith.  Athiests we look at cause and effect...and answer questions which more questions...in the end...their always be question to answer in science.  Does help us.  Yes.  Can it answer everything we want to know about how to get a handle on our lives to be godlike and live forever.  Maybe we can...in the future...but, their be questions...always questions...new theories...new ideas... always changing.  So, did these ancient people live ignorance?  Or, did they know something we all ready know?

So, God and whatever keeps the universe ticking goes beyond our understanding.  Does hurt us?  Does believing in God actually hurt us?  Actually no.  we will always be curious and look for answers to all those questions for the rest of human existance...and find interesting answers to help us.

Personally...(and this is where aithiests come in) I believe that we need a leap of faith...instead of going from point a to b to c... let's go to Z.  That's faith!  In the Christian  perspective, for instance...we are warned about this... this ever questioning.  It says stop and go to Z.  Faith.

Personally...science is limited.  It will always be limited to new theories and new ideas...but, for me?  It will never find the answers...even a billion years from now...until we learn that somethings must just have a leap of faith.  we can't be gods... even if we learn how to live forever and conquer all of the physical universe...there is aleays the wuestion of, "What if?"  So, shall be trapped by it...our own infalibility?

Or, do we take leap of Faith?

pert, i meant the main three books - the christian bible, the quraan and the torah.

I do understand what you mean by not being an atheist but not religious either.

I used to think like that, i used to think theres a god, a higher power, or at least someone out there.

Then again, there was also a time in my childhood when i thought the tooth fairy was real. And in both cases i was disappointed and felt like the world was empty for a while.

Infact, i got severely depressed when i realized there was no god or anyone who cares about me for no reason. Most of all, it hurt me to understand that my idea of god was that he was perfect and to find out that the one thing i thought was perfect didnt exist crushed my world!

And as much as i wish people would understand that theres no god, i would still think twice about telling them because i do know some people who have gone crazy or commited suicide because once god was gone, they didn't see a point in anything.

You're missing the point I think.  It's not about a "higher power."  What the scientists are gauging, what we are experiencing, that is God.  The sum total of existence.  Not some intellect in the sky, superior or not, that's not it.  Just what is.  It's not even a matter of faith.  It is what you live.  Ask yourself, "am I alive?"  As surely as you can answer in the affirmative to that question, so you must find what is is.  Is is a conterminant of reality.

I like how god is getting all the credit for rescuing the Chilean miners while everyone forgets about the people who did the actual work.

LOL! God gets the credit for a lot of things. if I was god, I would rather be spending my time making a new planet with new people.
