Health psychology
« on: February 02, 2011, 10:54:30 AM »
Dear friend
Hi!
I'm graduated from physiotherapy and i wanted to continue my studies in the U.S as an international student. I was very intrested in the link between physiotherapy problems and the mind and psychological problems, so I thought health psychology is a relevant major, but I couldn't find any Uni in the U.S that have a master in health psychology, besides, I don't know if they'll let me continue my studies in psychology while I have a degree in physiotherapy, even though I have a lot of experience in working with children and doing play-therapy.
Is there antone that can give me some info about that?
thanks :)
Rey

Hi Rey,

I know it's not the US but where I live, in The Netherlands, they do offer Master's degrees in Health Psychology. If you're interested, you could check out the Dutch Universities!

I don't know about the American Universities so I guess I'll leave that to the other members :)
I'm a clinical psychology and criminology undergraduate. I blog about psychology at http://www.manoneileen.com and I write fiction.

Today, the main approach used within health psychology is known as the biosocial model. According to this view, illness and health are the result of a combination of biological, psychological and social factors. Biological factors include inherited personality traits and genetic conditions. Psychological factors involve lifestyle, personality characteristics and stress levels. Social factors include such things as social support systems, family relationships and cultural beliefs.
