Profile of Mood States
« on: June 10, 2011, 02:54:37 PM »
Dear forum members,

Recently I encountered paper that mentions Profile of Mood States, methodology for measuring people's mood in 6 different dimensions  (such as anger). I have been trying to find some more information  about it in the Internet, unfortunately I have only found some  companies that offers making the research in your company and question  forms. Is there any source available online that describes methodology  of transferring answers in the questionnaire into mood measurement? It  would be perfect if it understandable without deep psychological  background :)  I would highly appreciate any help.

Kind Regards,
Tomasz

Psychological testing is a business, so most psychological tests are not available unless you pay for them.
That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Psychological tests are usually only available to licensed psychologists and other people with legitimate need. They are controlled because familiarity with the tests affects the outcome. It's a problem with psychology in general.

Edit: And, of course, this regulation means you have to pay! A very fortuitous coincidence for the publishers indeed.

The thing is that I don't wanna to use it in a regular way - I would like to use it as a base for a small research on how to determine "public mood" based on what people publish on the internet. In other terms, I would like to use semantic analysis of published content to classify it to one of the POMS keywords (if applicable) and based among others on number of occurences of given and its contrary word I want to assign score to each keyword and therefore calculate public mood.  Still, I need an information on how to get this final score based on each keyword result.

Therefore, I would highly appreciate any help.
