Sex and Food
« on: May 07, 2010, 08:22:00 PM »
I wanna ask question 'bout relation between sex and food , how these two things are related ?  I mean when sometimes it becomes clear for someone that they associate sexual intercourse with eating food .. and no reason for that ... may it represent any symbol ?

Both are forms of self-preservation.  Food is immediate and aimed at the self, sex is long term and aimed at the species.  To associate sex with eating food sounds like a muddle at the instinctual level.  I can't believe this, but I brought up a relevant example in a recent thread regarding a certain episode of Seinfeld.  *shrugs*

Self-Preservation , thats understandable , but here's is another thing ... You've probably heard of Freud : )  and I remember his thoughts 'bout sexual satisfaction in girls . He said there are a couple of things that may likely be the signs of sexual dissatisfaction : First, inclination to eating much , and swearing . for boys there is another thing but here with girls eating much food is straightly linked with some sexual needs . How Would ya explain that ? This was Freuds idea as I remember

It is only Freuds IDEA and it isn't a fact. I certainly do not consider it a whole truth.Just a part truth.

Eating is required and enjoyed with or with out sex. Eating produces endorphins. It is pleasurable and works through the pleasure centers of the brain . Humans derive pleasure form other many things and not just sex.

As stating above, food comes first and then sex.

Eating is a method of reducing anxiety.

Eating can  be a form of nurturing and can be related to needing nurturing. At the same time sex can be about nurturing and not directing related to the instinct to procreate.

I am not one to agree with many of Freuds statements about sex. Why he thought female neurosis were due to sex when in fact they were due to being treated second class citizens who had to deal with rape and incest with out basic human rights. Freuds scope was linear in fashion and I prefer Jung any day.

OK.  Well, there's you're answer.  It's Freud.  Anything that he saw had sexual connotations.  He looked at a baseball bat: "Penis."  A french fry: "Penis."  A donut: "Vagina."  I mean, the guy's entire vocabulary consisted of only three words: Penis, Vagina, Sex.

An actual conversation between Freud and a well-known physicist (maybe Bohr):
"Hey Dr. Freud, how are you?"

"Penis."

"Have you read any good books lately?"

"Vagina.  Sex."

"So, how about those rising dividends in today's mutual funds?"

"Sex.  Penis.  Vagina.  Vagina.  Pizza."

"Oh, Sigmund, I see that you've learned a new word!"

"Penis."

There is something comforting about reaching for a snack in times of stress, but I also discovered something really unexpected about my reaction to a couple of traumatic incidents in my life.    A couple of days after my father was laid to rest, I found myself completely overpowered by burning desire to get laid, and the only rational explanation that comes to mind is that the death of my father reminded me of my own mortality, which in turn triggered the primal instinct to procreate.

Some years ago I found myself among hostages during a half-hour bank raid in a third world country, as robbers emptied the vault while loosing off volleys to keep the cops at bay as they worked.  A couple of days after that memorable incident, I once again found myself as horny as a three peckered rhino, for no immediately apparent reason.  Observing my own response to mortal fear, I now understand why battle front soldiers develop such ravenous appetites for sex whenever they get time off duty.

That's not my answer : ) I supposed Freud's idea could serve as an explanation , but I didn't say that  it's truth by all means .... I'm not trying here to defend anybodys ideas , especially Sigmund F*ucking Freud's

Intersting remark. I observed in me something similar after deaths of relatives and I was feeling uncomfortable because of that.

Also, a friend of mine lost her 16-year old son in a tragic accident. In 1-2 years she was bringing to life another child.

I agree that some see it as Dr. Freud did, but I personally have a theory that it runs deeper than that. Being one who has worked with people exhibiting these behaviors, I believe one may associate food with sexual activity for a number of reasons. Bear in mind that this is only theory on my part, and i have not had the ability, before now to test it. I think, we will learn, that in some cases, food is an attempt to cover for aggression, or to provide a way out for loneliness, as has been proven. However, I also believe food may act as an actual substitute partner for some. I have had patients in the past refer to food as "their lovers" and "making love to food" in a philosophical sense. I have also known someone personally, who struggles with a food addiction, and she can actually achieve climax while eating a certain type of food. I do not wish to divulge too much, in keeping her confidentiality, yet she has assured me I may speak on her case, and she is actually able to achieve a level of arousal, and orgasm, when eating danish. She also is able to achieve the same when eating a large amount of chocolate.
